Rottnest Island Biophysics Field Trip 2003

Some lakes and ponds around Rottnest

One day before the students arrived Ralph and I went for a drive around the island, collecting water samples to analyse for magnetotactic bacteria and looking for somewhere to eat lunch. We found the former in the pond pictured and the latter next to the calm, lifeless (except for a lot of brine shrimp) waters of Lake Vincent. The last photograph in this series is of the Wadjemup Hill lighthouse, location of previous year's Biophysics field trips. Ralph used to get quite emotional when reminiscing about the Wadjemup hill Research Station, whereas I was more enamoured with the new research station and it's modern kitchen and lack of rodents.
